To help develop a healthy relationship with food, you need to make peace with food and give yourself permission to eat those foods you enjoy. When you tell yourself you can’t have a particular food – often a response learned from dieting – it can lead to deprivation and uncontrollable cravings which then can result in overeating and guilt afterward. You also need to challenge the food police and the feelings you have when you declare a food as “good” or “bad.” Provide yourself nurturing messages that aren’t judgmental.
